When will the Library building reopen?

As of September 13, the main Library and Music Library are fully reopen for UCSB students, faculty, staff, and community members.

“Deep Dish with the University Librarian” is a regular event that offers students the opportunity to meet with University Librarian Kristin Antelman and provide feedback about UCSB Library.

In order to fight stigma and bring awareness to mental health issues, particularly in this current crisis, UCSB Library is pleased to partner with UCSB Health and Wellness in sharing resources to support our community during Mental Health Month. 

In an effort to mitigate the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Chancellor Yang announced that effective March 11, UC Santa Barbara has transitioned to remote instruction for the remainder of the Winter Quarter and the entire Spring Quarter (ending June 12).

UCSB Library is responding in the following ways:

Thanks to UCSB Sustainability and Associated Students Recycling, compost bins are now in the UCSB Library to encourage students, staff, and faculty to participate in waste diversion on campus.

A study by UCSB Sustainability found that more than 80 percent of the waste collected at the UCSB Library can be diverted from the landfill, which is one of the reasons the Library was selected to receive the new bins. 

GauchoPrint - UCSB’s new student-funded printing solution that allows students to use their 200 pages of print credit at any GauchoPrint printer - is now available at the UCSB Library. 

The new printers in the Library also allow users to print from laptops and mobile devices. These are services students have long been requesting at the Library and the Library is excited to offer them.

To better protect your privacy, UCSB Library public computers will now delete all user data after each logout, including logouts due to 15 minutes of inactivity.

To prevent your work from being lost, we recommend saving your files often to cloud storage, such as Google Drive, or saving often to a personal USB drive. The Services Desk has a small stock of USB drives available if you do not have your own.

The UCSB Library has completed the renovation and expansion of the Adaptive Technology Center (ATC), a space for students with disabilities to access technology that makes it easier to keep up with their studies.

The space now has 11 work stations (it previously had six), a new electronic access card reader, new carpet, new paint, and new furniture. A shared wall was also removed to expand the center into one larger room.
