When the Library reopens at 8 a.m. on September 13, the Pickup and Mailing Service that began during the pandemic lockdown will be discontinued.

Users will again have access to browse all eight floors of the collections as well as the Music Library collections, located on the 2nd floor of the Music building. 

The Library will fully reopen its main and music buildings to students, staff, faculty, and community members at 8 a.m. on Monday, September 13. We look forward to welcoming you all back for your study, research, and learning needs.

The HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS) currently provides UCSB users with online access to a portion of the UC Libraries’ in-copyright print holdings that were inaccessible during the COVID-19 pandemic.

When the UCSB Library and campus closed suddenly in March 2020 because of the growing COVID-19 pandemic, the expected duration of closure was estimated at a mere three weeks.

Over the past 15 months, our community has experienced a multitude of personal and professional challenges and opportunities, among them the transition to the virtual workspace.

On May 17, the UCSB Library moved into the third phase of the building reopening, expanding study space to more of the 2nd floor, including the Paseo Bridge.

Additionally, we extended evening hours from Sunday-Thursday until 9 p.m. Requested materials can now be picked up anytime the building is open for study. See hours here. 

The Music Library now offers limited on-site research appointments for UCSB faculty and graduate students. 

We will provide browsing access to on-site Music print collections (books, scores, and journals).

The UCSB Library is preparing to reopen a portion of the main Library for limited student study space at the beginning of spring quarter, March 29.

Finding and borrowing materials from libraries across the UC system is about to get easier. On July 27, 2021, the libraries on all 10 University of California campuses will be connected through UC Library Search, a unified discovery and borrowing system.

The UCSB Library will be closed for Winter Break from Thursday, December 24 through Sunday, January 3. No services will be offered during that time. 

Starting October 6, UCSB Library Special Research Collections (SRC) will offer limited research appointments in SRC’s Reading Room for UC Santa Barbara faculty and graduate students to access on-site SRC materials that are not available online and to access non-circulating materials from the Main Library and Music Library that are not available via the pickup and mailing service. UCSB Library remains closed for general walk-in use.
