The interface of the database list on the Library homepage will change on Tuesday, September 17. Library website users who click on the “Articles & Databases” button or the “Articles & Databases” link in the main navigation menu will be redirected to the new interface, https://guides.library.ucsb.edu/az/databases.
The new interface will make it easier for Library users to discover available databases and electronic resources by offering several improvements:
- It combines features of the basic and advanced searches into one screen
- Users can search by database title or keyword in addition to searching by subject
- Users will see a short description of each resource in the initial results and can see more information about the resource without leaving the search results screen
- It provides information about permitted uses on the search page
- It provides information about off-campus access requirements and recommendations (campus VPN or proxy server) on the search page
- New and trial resources are highlighted in a box in the right sidebar
- Technical Support and Research Help resources can be accessed through boxes in the right sidebar
Users are encouraged to bookmark the link to the new interface. Existing research database pages on the Library website will automatically redirect to the new interface for the next twelve months.
