The Listening Rooms and the rooms' reservation system will open to UCSB affiliates on January 6, 2025.

The Arts Library Listening Rooms (Rooms 1404 and 1406) provide access to analog and digital equipment for listening to LP and CD collections. They are located in the Sara Miller McCune Arts Library space on the 1st floor, Mountain Side.

Arts Library Listening Rooms Guidelines for Use

  • All Listening Rooms are available for UCSB students, faculty, and staff. The maximum number of people in a Listening Room at any time is 2.
  • Listening Rooms feature a CD player, LP player, computer, speakers, and headphones.
  • Listening Rooms are intended to be used primarily with Library media collections. Physical media should be requested in advance through UC Library Search (requests may take up to 4 days to be processed). See this Music Research Guide for help searching for media.
  • Listening Rooms may not be used for instruction, office hours, standing meetings, or general study. If you need a study room, please reserve or drop-in to a Group Study Room.
  • Reservations for Listening Rooms may be made online 2 weeks in advance and for up to 4 hours per week.
  • When Listening Rooms are not in use, drop-in users are welcome. Drop-in users must relinquish a Listening Room when presented with proof of reservation (such as a printout, saved email, or screenshot).
  • Scan your Access Card at the door to gain access to the Listening Rooms. Please ensure that you occupy the Listening Room with the same room number that is listed in your reservation.
  • Library furniture and equipment may not be moved in or out of Listening Rooms.
  • Users should clean up after themselves and leave the area in good condition, including turning off all audio equipment and logging-out of the computer.
  • Please maintain reasonable noise levels and keep the door closed at all times.
  • The Library is not responsible for the loss or theft of personal property. Do not leave your belongings unattended; other Access Card holders have access to the room.
  • Failure to follow Listening Room guidelines may result in users being asked to leave the area or the Library and/or in the loss of reservation privileges.
  • If your plans change, please cancel your reservation so others can use the Listening Room.
  • Food or drink are not allowed in Listening Rooms.
  • For assistance with Listening Rooms and to report non-functional equipment, visit the Collaborate Helpdesk in the Paseo.
