General Collection

Except in the case of a recalled item, the library does not charge daily overdue fines for material borrowed from the general collection. If you have overdue materials, your borrowing privileges will be blocked and you will not be able to conduct any library transactions until overdue items are renewed or returned. For each item more than 30 days overdue, you will be billed a default replacement charge plus an additional $15 non-refundable processing fee. The initial replacement charge is refundable within six months upon return of material. The UCSB Library does not accept physical replacement copies of lost items.

Interlibrary Loan

If your Interlibrary Loan items are 30 days overdue, you will be charged an initial replacement cost of $125 plus an additional $15 non-refundable processing fee. If the item's actual value is higher than $125, as determined by the lending library, the charges will be increased accordingly.

Course Reserves

Overdue charges for items from Course Reserves are $2.00 per hour. There is no cap on the amount charged. If you have overdue materials, you will not be able to conduct new library transactions until all late items are renewed or returned. If your Reserves materials are repeatedly returned late, if they go to lost, or if you prevent others from borrowing Reserves materials, you will be blocked from certain Reserves privileges. For each item more than 3 days overdue, you will be billed a default non-refundable replacement charge plus a non-refundable $15 processing fee in addition to the overdue fines.

Laptop Computers

Overdue charges for laptop computers are $10 per hour. When a laptop is lost, stolen, damaged, or 3 days overdue, you will be billed $1000 for replacement, plus a $25 processing fee, and the accumulated overdue fines.  The replacement charge will be refunded if the computer is returned in good condition within 7 days of billing; however, the overdue fines and processing fees remain.  Laptops returned after the Services Desk closes will continue to accrue fines overnight.

Grad Room Keys

Overdue charges for Grad Room Keys are $2.00 per hour.  For 3 or more days overdue, you will be billed a non-refundable replacement/re-keying charge of $135 plus a non-refundable $15 processing fee in addition to the overdue fine.
