Sara Miller McCune Arts Library Seminar Room Guidelines

Purpose & Eligibility

The Sara Miller McCune Arts Library Seminar Room 1411 (“Seminar Room”) is primarily intended as a small instructional space for use with library collections and audio equipment. The Seminar Room is located in the Sara Miller McCune Arts Library space on the 1st floor, Mountain Side and can be reserved by librarians, UCSB instructors, and library staff for the purposes of library instruction, occasional course instruction, and library staff meetings. The Seminar Room is available by reservation only during business hours (M-F 8am-5pm).    

The Seminar Room is not available for regularly-scheduled class sessions, public events, office hours, meetings hosted by non-Library staff, or personal use. The Seminar Room cannot be reserved by students, alumni, community members, UCSB staff other than library staff, or for purposes not indicated.

Reservations

The Library is now accepting reservation requests for the Seminar Room for January 21, 2025, or later.

Requests for use of the Seminar Room can be made for the following purposes by these eligible groups:

Library instruction (Library instructors)

Occasional course instruction (UCSB instructors)

  • Priority is granted to UCSB instructors who need to use Music and Art & Architecture collections and/or the Seminar Room audio equipment in their instruction.
  • Instructors are responsible for ensuring library collection materials are available and retrieving them for their instruction, as well as returning them to the Services Desk or a book drop following their instruction.
  • Instructors can use the Library Instruction and Training Room Request Form to request a reservation for the Seminar Room. Requests must be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the requested date.

Library staff meetings (Library staff)

Reservations are mediated by library administrative staff. A reservation is not confirmed until receipt of a confirmation email. Please be prepared to present your confirmation email at the time of your reservation, if needed. If your plans change, please cancel your reservation by replying to your original confirmation email so that others can use the Seminar Room.

Library administration reserves the right to adjust Seminar Room reservations to accommodate high-priority needs, in consultation with users.

Space & Technology

The seating capacity of the Seminar Room is 12 people.

Instructors and others must bring their own laptop for use with the digital display. The Seminar Room is equipped with a CD player, LP player, surround sound speakers, digital display, Zoom capabilities, and an upright piano. Instructions for use of the equipment can be found in the room.

Room Access 

Scan your Access Card at the door to gain access to the Seminar Room. It is recommended that you test your Access Card privileges before your reservation, and seek resolution to any problems using the Access ID help resources. The person to whom the Seminar Room is reserved must be present for the entire booking and is responsible for letting others into the room and for ensuring the room is cleared of occupants and locked before leaving. Library furniture and equipment may not be moved in or out of the Seminar Room. Users should clean up after themselves and leave the area in good condition, including turning off all audio equipment. Please maintain reasonable noise levels and keep the door closed at all times. 

Security & Conduct

The Library is not responsible for the loss or theft of personal property. Do not leave your belongings unattended; other Access Card holders have access to the room.

All Seminar Room users are required to adhere to the Library Building Use & Conduct Policy. Failure to follow Seminar Room guidelines may result in users being asked to leave the area or the Library and/or in the loss of reservation privileges.
