Creative Currents
The study of the arts is an essential element of a classical education. With world-renowned faculty in Art & Architecture, Dance, Film & Media Studies, Music, Studio Art, and Theater, and the nation’s only Bachelor’s degree in the field of Book Arts, UCSB enables students of all disciplines to express themselves creatively and explore their talents. Students have the opportunity to hone their artistic skills and develop their creative side as part of their major or their general education, and UCSB has prepared many graduates for successful artistic careers.
This exhibition provides a glimpse into the creative work of UCSB students through the decades, including performances from Ambi Harsha’s Playsia course, artists’ books crafted in the Book Arts program, student compositions from the Music Department, materials from UCSB’s student dance company, Repertory-West, and works from the long-running Theater and Dance Department.
This exhibition was curated by Matt Stahl, UCSB University Archivist, and Carlyle Constantino, a PhD Candidate in History at UCSB, in celebration of the opening of the Sara Miller McCune Arts Library. The objects in the exhibition were selected from the University Archives in UCSB Library’s Special Research Collections.
