UCSB Library invites you to a drop in event showcasing "Art & Reproductive Biology," an exhibition of student work created as part of a quarter-long interdisciplinary class in Anthropology and Art.

Science tells us that an egg cell met a sperm cell and their respective haploid DNA combined into a complete diploid genotype that replicated itself in a chain of developmental events to create a human. Chemically mediated through hormones and electrically mediated through the nervous system, processes like conception, pregnancy and fetal development are well documented in scientific terms. However, science alone cannot capture the whole truth of the human body.

Ten UCSB undergraduate students explore the metaphysical and existential concerns surrounding menstruation, pregnancy, miscarriage, birth control, the limits of western healthcare, and the political reception of reproductive biology through their art.

Light refreshments will be served.

This event may be photographed or recorded.
