Lunch & Learn: Neuroimaging & National Belonging
Join us for Lunch & Learn, where you'll have the chance to socialize with other grad students and hear talks by students in Psychological &Brain Sciences and Sociology. Lunch & Learn is co-sponsored by the Graduate Division, the Graduate Student Association, and the UCSB Library.
While we won't be able to share pizza together in person, all attendees will be entered into a raffle to win a $15 Amazon gift card.

Presentations:
Laura Pritschet, Psychological and Brain Sciences
The brain is an endocrine organ whose day-to-day function is tied to the rhythmic production of sex steroid hormones (e.g., estrogen). Yet, traditional approaches to studying brain-hormone relationships in humans are often coarse in scope. By contrast, dense-sampling offers the unique ability to probe dynamic interations between the nervous and endocrine systems at increased spatio-temporal resolutions. In this talk, I will summarize findings from our "28andMe" dense-sampling project, which reveals sex hormones' ability to modulate brain structure and fuction across the menstrual cycle. I'll end by discussing how the neuroimaging community should increase its commitment to advancing knowledge of the brain with a focus on women's health.
SHEF Talk: Transnational Belonging and LGBTQ+ Immigrant Lives
Alex Eleazar, Sociology
How do LGBTQ+ individuals with family migration histories understand their identities across national contexts? Using interviews with individuals whose families migrated to the United States, my research investigates how feelings of belonging, nationalism, and family ties are shaped by sexuality
