Climate Justice and "Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore:" A UCSB Reads 2020 Panel Discussion

UCSB Library presents a panel discussion that will provide a national and international perspective on climate justice in conjunction with UCSB Reads 2020. Climate justice frames climate change as a civil rights issue in addition to an environmental issue. In Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore, UCSB Reads 2020 author Elizabeth Rush combines rigorous reporting and lyrical storytelling to depict the impact of sea level rise in the United States and demonstrates how race, class, national origin, and income levels further exacerbate vulnerability to rising seas.

“Climate change is happening now and to all of us. No country or community is immune,”  said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “And, as is always the case, the poor and vulnerable are the first to suffer and the worst hit.”
