The Library’s current serials and newspapers have been moved from their location on 1st Floor, Mountain Side. Most serial volumes have been relocated to the general stacks, where they are interfiled by call number with other collections. A small selection of serials have been moved to a new browsable Current Serials area on the 1st Floor, Ocean Side (see map below for location). Most newspapers have been relocated to the new Current Serials area on the 1st Floor, Ocean Side. A small selection of newspapers were moved to the East Asian and Ethnic & Gender Studies collections. Lists of exactly which serials and newspapers can be found in the new Current Serials area are available at the Reference Desk and attached below. No changes have been made to the circulating status of the items; the serials each have call numbers on them and circulate, while the newspapers do not circulate.
The old Current Serials area is being converted into student study space. Approximately 100 seats will be added, with a mix of individual and group seating, as well as an additional 40 feet of glass writing boards. The move is part of a broader Library effort to increase seating throughout the building to meet the high and growing demand for student study space. The Current Serials area was selected for conversion to study space because it is within the Late Night Study footprint and there were many empty shelves, or unutilized space, in this area. This is in large part because in recent years the Library stopped subscribing to many print serials in favor of online access, which most users prefer.
