Make photocopies in the library
The library's photocopying and printing services are run by Copy Services.

See:
    orange bullet Photocopying and Printing.

Computing facilities in the library
The Library contains numerous "InfoStations" (Windows PC's). All InfoStations have Internet Explorer and/or Netscape, with which one may access many library resources, including Pegasus, our Indexes and Databases, electronic journals, and the Internet. Most computers are attached to networked printers. Printing is paid for using a "copy card", which may be purchased at dispensers on the 1st or 2nd floor of Davidson Library, or in the Arts Library.

Some workstations have word processing. They are labled as "InfoWork" stations. There are InfoWork stations located in the main first floor computing area, as well as in the Government Information Center and in the (second floor) Sciences-Engineering Library. Outside of the library, word processing and many other applications are available in Computer labs.

Saving Your Work When Using Library Computers
In order to make changes to an MS Word or Powerpoint file, you will need to use one of the computers with the full version of these programs. Look for the blue signs that say "Microsoft Office Available".

The most reliable method to save your work is to use a USB thumb drive. We highly recommend this method, as it is the best way to protect yourself from losing your work.

If you have e-mailed a file to yourself and want to edit it, you MUST save it to a USB drive or to our computer BEFORE making any changes. If you do not do this, it will not save your changes. WARNING: If you relying on saving the file to our computers, there is a risk involved. If the machine has to be restarted, the file will be erased and will not be retrievable. This is why we recommend that you use a USB thumb drive.

UCSB students can also save your files to your U-Storage space. To do this, see the directions below:

Connect my laptop to the library's network (wireless or open port)?
The library offers wireless access in a number of areas, including throughout most of the 1st floor, the South side of the 4th floor, the 24 hour study room, and the Arts Library. There are also tables in the 24-hour study room and on the 4th floor (South) where you can physically plug your laptop into our network (open port). To use either this network or the wireless network, you must be a university employee or currently enrolled student.
