Isla Vista Memorial Origami Crane Folding Workshop

This origami crane folding workshop is a walk-in event scheduled May 23, 2024 from 2:00- 4:00 PM, in the FishBowl art space located by the Davidson entrance of the Ocean side of the library. The origami cranes will be collected during the event and donated to the Associated Students.

This workshop is part of the Isla Vista Memorial Exhibition, located in the Library’s Mountain Gallery. The exhibition is part of a larger campus memorial that commemorates the 10th anniversary of a violent rampage in which six UCSB students were killed and fourteen people injured in Isla Vista on May 23, 2014. 

Materials on display were collected from spontaneous memorials that appeared following the murders. They have been preserved and are available for research in the Special Research Collections department of the UCSB Library.  Many of these memorials included objects such as origami cranes, painted rocks, and handmade cards. The exhibition will be on display from May 14-June 17.
